Promoting a diversity of flowers and people
Bybi currently counts nine staff, both full-time and part-time, as well as a constant stream of volunteers.
Its headquarters are located in an area of Copenhagen with high levels of homelessness and drug abuse, and it prioritises employing people from socially-disadvantaged backgrounds or who are overcoming difficult circumstances.
Aref, pictured here harvesting honey from hives located near Bybi’s office, used to work as a beekeeper in Syria before fleeing to Denmark when the war broke out.
Product developer at the social enterprise Penelope Hansen told us this diverse make-up is a core part of Bybi's ethos.
“We have a mix of people with full-time staff, interns from the university and volunteers. We like to have a mix of people and flowers – diversity is good for people as well as bees!”
The honey harvest takes place from June to September.
