Food safety recall round-up

Gourmet Boutique is recalling almost 300,000 pounds of RTE chicken due to the same problem and Maid-Rite Specialty Foods also recalled 174,000 pounds of various beef.

Conagra Brands recalled 717,338 pounds of spaghetti and meatballs and Packer Avenue Foods Inc. recalled 9,690 pounds of RTE chicken salad.

Aldon Food Corporation recalled 18,570 pounds of chicken salad and Water Lilies Food Inc recalled 4,335 pounds of RTE breaded chicken.

Advance Pierre Foods Inc. recalled 54,699 pounds of chicken and Pork King Sausage recalled 44,035 pounds of raw sausage link products.

Joseph Seviroli Inc. is recalling 114,409 pounds of beef ravioli products and Golden Platter Foods Inc. is recalling 31,662 pounds of poultry and beef products.

US: Tyson Foods Inc. is recalling almost 2.5m pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) breaded chicken due to undeclared milk.

RTE breaded chicken items were produced and packaged between August 17, 2016 to January 14, 2017, said the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS). For a list of affected items, dates and codes click here.

Products were shipped for institutional use nationwide and schools have purchased products through Tyson’s commercial channels.

The problem was discovered on 6 June when the company was told by an ingredient supplier that breadcrumbs it received and used in the recalled products potentially contained undeclared milk. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the products.

New Zealand: Pasta Vera is recalling Gluten Free Beef Lasagne due to undeclared gluten and it being incorrectly labelled \'gluten free\'.

Gluten Free Beef Lasagne (4 servings of 270g) with best before 6/4/18 and 10/4/18 was sold in New World Supermarkets throughout the South Island.

Authorities said people with a gluten allergy or intolerance should not consume it.

Yellow Tuna Fillet Odmrznuta with lot number T 125-17 packaging date 5-6-17 and best before of 16-6-17 is affected.

Importer for Croatia is Žuvela doo and the product was placed on the market by METRO cash & carry.

Coulommiers au lait cru 250g with date 8-6-17 and identification mark FR 61402001 CE is involved. It was put on the German market by Ruwisch & Zuck Die Käsespezialisten GmbH & Co.

During a control, STEC was detected in the product. Despite the date having expired it cannot be ruled out that some remains with the consumer.

Salade de blé court 125g with lot number B321Y0000A and date 29-5-17 was affected. Delhaize has removed all product from shelves.

USA: Happy Sprout Inc. is recalling soybean sprouts because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Affected items are 1-lb bags of soybean sprouts in clear plastic bags labeled “GOODSEED Soy Bean Sprouts” “Keep Refrigerated” with a UPC Code of “21111 10035” produced on or after May 1, 2017 and 2-lb bags of the same format with UPC Code of “21112 58772” produced on or after May 1, 2017.

The 10-lb bags of soybean sprouts in black plastic bags with a sticker “GOODSEED Soy Bean Sprouts” produced on or after May 1, 2017 are also involved.

They were distributed to retail stores in Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey.

Potential contamination was noted after surveillance sampling by the Virginia Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Program and testing by the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services revealed L. monocytogenes in sampled product. No illnesses have been reported.
