Verduijns Fine Biscuits launched three savory variants to its portfolio of organic wafers at ISM/ProSweets, held in Cologne, Germany, in February.

The Dutch family owned and managed company places major emphasis on being transparent about the source of the ingredients for its products, in line with the BRC global standard it conforms to.

“We can tell you exactly which country – mainly in the EU – the ingredients come from, including which factory they are made in and even how they are produced. Everything we source is certificated,” Verduijns’ Petra Traas-Kolijn told BakeryandSnacks.

“Without that knowledge, we can sell our biscuits,” she claimed.

“The BRC certification is very important to the company.”

The Eed, Zeeland-based biscuit company produces a range of fine thin butter biscuits and wafers in both sweet and savory flavors, including puff pastry cheese biscuits, cranberry and raspberry, almond, orange, apple cinnamon and sugar wafers.

It introduced black pepper, rosemary and sesame flavors to its Bio Organic range at ISM.

Keeping things traditional

Its products are manufactured in a traditional way, sometimes with original wafer irons that produce the typical fine crispy taste.

The company, which was founded in 1935, has built a large customer base, stretching across the EU to Asia and Australia.

According to Traas-Kolijn, it was exhibiting at ISM to find further distributors to extend its footprint to new territories.
