Barilla is calling on Europe’s researchers to pitch their projects on food and sustainability for the chance to win a €20,000 research grant through its BCFN Young Earth Solution (YES!) competition.

"The objective of the research proposal is to make more sustainable one or more themes of the agri-food system, in terms of environmental, social, health and economic aspects,” said the Barilla Centre for Food and Nutrition (BCFN).

All PhD students and post-doctoral researchers who began their doctoral course on or after 1 January 2011 and are aged 35 or under are eligible.

Deadline for submissions, which must be completed online through the BCFN website, is 28 June at 11:59pm Central European Time.

Six leading academics in the field of sustainable food systems sit on the jury, including Alexandra Johnstone, senior research fellow at The Rowett Institute specialising in sustainable proteins and registered UK nutritionist.

Oliver Oliveros, head of international cooperation at the agrifood and biodiversity institute Agropolis based in Montpellier, France and Sébastien Treyer, director of programmes at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) at Sciences Po in Paris will also take part.
