French flavour and functional ingredients supplier Nactis Flavours has signed an agreement to acquire the aromatic raw materials portfolio of specialty chemical firm PCAS for an undisclosed sum.

Nactis Flavours said that PCAS’s portfolio of aromatic raw materials will complement its Synarome range of aromas from distilled essential oils. A statement on the acquisition issued by Nactis Flavours said PCAS had decided to sell this part of its business as it was no longer part of its core strategy.

President and founder, Hervé Lecesne said the acquisition would allow Nactis Flavours to become one of the leading European actors in manufacturing niche aromatic molecules.

With these new R&D capabilities the company said it will also be setting its future sights on manufacturing aromatic raw materials through biocatalysis.

Nactis Flavours allocates 7% of its annual budget to R&D, and an €8m investment in R&D and production last year contributed to building a new R&D centre in Bondoufle which will open in spring.

Last year it bought Belgian company Robertet Savoury, the savoury flavours arm of flavours and fragrance company Groupe Robertet which specialises in process flavours (Maillard flavours), and hydrolysed vegetable protein for soups, sauces, meats, condiments and ready meals.

Founded in 1996, the company’s headquarters and production sites are in France, with commercial subsidiaries in Poland, Bulgaria and Tunisia.
